Getting ready to go Way gook (외국인)

Packing DramaThe days I have left in the States are dwindling rapidly as I frantically attempt to prepare for the next year of life. Since this is the first post, I’ll announce that I’m moving to Incheon, South Korea to teach English at Puk Incheon SLP! I am so thrilled for this opportunity and cannot believe that it is becoming reality.

These are some of the most frequent questions I have been getting::

How long will you be there?

I signed a 1 year contract!

Do you know Korean?…….Annyeoung 안녕 !!!

Scary, I know, but I want to learn more! (On the real- I freaked out this morning and ordered a phrasebook from Amazon…)

What ages are you going to be teaching?

Around 8-14 year olds (but in Korea, age begins at birth so 7-13 year olds?)

Will they pay you well?

Yes! My flight and apartment are covered.

Why are you doing this?

Why not?! But seriously…I could list a bunch of cheesy, ethereal travel quotes about how life is short and all but the reality is that  I want to see more of the world and now seems like the perfect time to do so. I don’t know what I’ll find there, but I want to find out for myself.

I’ll wrap up this introductory post and in the next one I’ll try and explain a bit of the craziness that is the process of getting a job overseas teaching english (obviously) in Korea.

  1. Hello there! I just stumbled upon this post while researching the PukIncheon SLP Institute…since you’ve taught there, would you mind if I asked you some questions about it? I’d really appreciate it!
